How to Initiate Use Your Talents
Invitation and Initial Meeting: The UYT process begins by inviting church members, community residents, and neighbors to gather and discuss their concerns. This initial meeting is a time for open sharing and helps identify the community’s main issues and interests.
Organization and Asset Mapping: Participants are introduced to the biblical foundation of Diakonia, emphasizing service and stewardship. They engage in asset mapping to identify the strengths, resources, and talents already present in their community. This step highlights that everyone has something valuable to contribute.
Group Formation and Action Planning: Based on shared interests, participants “vote with their feet” by joining smaller groups focused on specific projects. Each group develops an action plan that details the project goals, tasks, timeline, and roles. This plan gives structure and accountability to each initiative.
Establishing Guidelines and Responsibilities: Each group sets guidelines for how they will work together, including assigning responsibilities. This helps foster teamwork and ensures everyone understands their role.
Ongoing Meetings and Progress Evaluation: Regular meetings allow groups to discuss progress, evaluate their effectiveness, and address any challenges. These check-ins keep the momentum going and allow for adjustments as needed.
Support and Connection: Facilitators and organizers offer support, connect groups with necessary resources, and help them navigate obstacles, ensuring that each group has what it needs to succeed.
Celebration: Achievements and milestones are celebrated, reinforcing community pride and motivation. Celebrating small wins fosters a sense of accomplishment and encourages continued engagement.
